Entry requirements and how the judging process works

Successful candidates will be announced at the AJ/RPS Urban Design reception at RIBA on 14th July.

Judges

The judging panel consists of:

Kieran Long – Editor, The Architects’ Journal
Mark Brearley – Assistant Director (Design), Design for London
Dr Colin Bloch – Director, RPS
Peter Davidson – Director, LAB Architecture
Bob Tavernor - Professor of Architecture and Urban Design and Director of the Cities Programme , London School of Economics

Judges are looking for design talent and a strong interest in the process of urban change, rather than formal urban design skills or training. No previous experience in urban design is required. Winning scholars will demonstrate a clear understanding of the city. In their letter and four-page submission they should show how they understand how good design and agile handling of process can make a better city.

Judges’ decisions are final. The competition is open to all entrants, with the exception of employees of The Architects’ Journal, Design for London or RPS.
