The AJ/RPS Urban Design Scholarship programme is a competition organised by The Architects’ Journal (“AJ”). Deadline for entries is 4th June 2008. Judges will shortlist entrants. Shortlisted entrants will be invited (no later than 12th June) to an interview on 18th June at Design for London’s office in Southwark. Competition-winning entrants will be informed by email on 20th June. Competition winners (“scholars”) are required to participate in a symposium on Urban Design hosted by AJ and Design for London at the RIBA, 66 Portland Place at 5pm on Wednesday 9th July 2008. The names of scholars will be announced at a drinks reception at the RIBA immediately following the symposium on 9th July, and published in AJ 10th July.
There will be three scholars. Scholars are required to complete a period of internship with the Design for London team at their offices in Southwark and undertake any reasonable task according to Design for London requirements. The period of internship is no more than six months, reporting and working times will be agreed between the scholar and Design for London. AJ will provide a grant to each scholar from a competition prize fund during the course of the scholarship.
Scholars are competition winners and are not employees and will not be employed by or offered employment either full time or temporarily with RPS, Design for London or AJ. AJ requires that scholars: (a) to maintain a monthly web log of their experiences whilst on internship with Design For London (all rights to the web log will pass to AJ and shall be published on the AJ’s website and/or Journal), (b) to make themselves available at reasonable periods to be interviewed by the AJ editorial team during the period of internship, and (c) to attend the opening of the AJ/RPS Urban Design Scholarship programme exhibition in London (date to be confirmed).
Acceptance of these terms is a condition to entry into the competition. Competition winners will be asked to agree to countersign these terms as acknowledgement that they have read and accepted these terms.
